Meet Matt

Born in Texas, raised in Manchaca. Area resident for over 40 years and moved to Buda in 2012, Matt Smith brings his knowledge of financial planning, community organization and leadership to the City of Buda. Matt is a Fiduciary Manager for one of the top 3 largest financial institutions in the United States where he manages multiple teams and oversees the administration of billions of dollars in assets for his clients. As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and Certified Trust & Fiduciary Advisor, his understanding and appreciation for delivering in a fiduciary capacity makes him the ideal candidate to oversee and care for the City of Buda’s assets and plan for the future.

Matt is a graduate of the City of Buda Citizen’s Academy, current City of Buda Parks & Recreation Commissioner and Chair of the City of Buda Amphitheater Committee. When he is not performing duties in the above capacities you will find him participating as a Member of the Baylor Scott & White Buda Development Advisory Board, coaching and mentoring local youth sports and building new homes with Habitat for Humanity. Formerly, Matt was Co-Chair of the Whispering Hollow HOA-Festival Committee and continues to support local events bringing families together from all around Buda.

Originally from just up the road in Manchaca, Texas, where in 1977 his parents purchased the family home he would be raised in until graduating from James Bowie High School in 1995. Going on to graduate with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree from Southwest Texas State University (now known as Texas State University) Matt feels blessed to continue to call this area home for his young family. Matt and his wife, Vannessa, chose to start a family and move to Buda because of the strong sense of community, excellent area schools and an amazing quality of life. After researching communities from Cedar Park to San Marcos, Wimberley to Bastrop, and everywhere in-between, Buda had it all when it came to raising a family and enjoying life to the fullest. With their two boys, Gavin(8) and Hudson(5), Buda has everything they desire in a community to foster a positive and meaningful life for their family.

Matt believes in the “Golden Rule” in life, business and government and prides himself on being honest, trustworthy and respecting people from all walks of life. He is a long-standing member of this community, has passion for seeing it thrive and can articulate how people really feel about Buda. Matt’s vision for managing future growth while preserving Buda’s small town charm is what Buda businesses and families need most right now.

Go ahead, ask Matt anything!
